Stakes & Varieties
Judge: Miss Nicola Foster (Thozow)
I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge at your show,
it was valuable hands on experience, and I thoroughly enjoyed my day.
The sun had come out, so it was decided to judge outside where there was plenty of room.
I would also like to thank the exhibitors for making the event a bit if fun for everyone to enjoy. Junior Handling was most enjoyable, with some new faces, hope to see them progress at more of these events.
Horak Memorial Special Open Stakes (8,2a)
1st Burrage’s Ch Komidion Night Music at Sametova ShCM ShCEx VW
At 12 years, she is an outstanding quality bitch, and out moved the best to win this class. She has a balanced head with a kind eye and medium ears high set, front is straight, with good bone and tight feet. She has an elegant neck, good lay of shoulder, ribs well sprung with correct depth, correct rise of loin, with strong muscular hindquarters. Moved with propulsion.
2nd England’s & Burrage’s Ch Ashleyheath’s Black Thunder ShCM ShCEx
Another outstanding dog from this kennel, this dog is in excellent muscular condition. Balanced head with slight stop, strong muzzle well filled, ears pendulous of correct size. Medium length neck, ribs well sprung, elbows free, muscular loin. Moved with purpose. Silky coat in excellent condition.
3rd Marett’s Idefix Daybreak at Gayteckels Pd’H
Progeny (3 groups )
These 2 classes show for me this breed has a good future, with the breeding seen here today it is clear, breed type and temperament is important. All groups show consistency in type and put on a polished performance, working together.

Junior Handling up to 16 years (4,1a)
3 new Junior Handlers who all did a really good job. It was a close decision between them. It was lovely to see there was so much support from the club, and I hope they continue to compete in this hobby, as they all have the potential to go further.
My advice to these handlers is, when standing and moving your dogs, talk with them encouraging them to be with you. Also when showing the dogs bite, practice so you show the dogs bite to the judge, keeping your head out of the way. Not forgetting, remember to smile, you are supposed to be having fun.
1st Violet Roche
2nd Mariella Roche
3rd Amelia Kirk
Adult Handling
1st Christine Marett
A gentle handler, who has a good rapport with her dog. Her pattern work consisted of clean lines and sharp corners, presenting her dog to a neat finish. Pair work was very well executed and won her this class.
2nd Meg Rodgers
Worked well with her dog, moved at the correct pace, presenting her dog to the judge. Showed the dogs bite cleanly. My advice is to watch for miss placed feet, and remember always have the dog between you and the judge.

The Cesky Terrier Club Championship Show 17th July 2022
It was a pleasure to judge at this show, my thanks to the club for the invitation and to the exhibitors for bringing their dogs. I think the breed has made great progress since the breed arrived in this country. Heads were fairly uniform and mouths on the whole were good, good bites and bigger teeth. The outlines less exaggerated and presentation good. Front action is still a problem, but I thought hind action was very good. There were still a few with questionable temperaments, but on the whole the majority of dogs were happy to be handled.
PD. 2.
Fewings Komidion Schubert. Good overall outline, I liked his head which had good length & well placed ears. He has a good length of neck, good in forechest, front quite good for age. Nice body, pleasing topline without any exaggeration, nice tuck up & slope of croup. Stands well behind & moves with good width. In a pleasing coat. BP.
Richardson’s Talyot Norman. A little younger than 1 & less mature. Nice head, dark in eye & a good mouth. He has a good outline when stacked, good body with a good spring of rib & depth. He has a good turn of stifle, tailset correct. Movement needs to settle & needs more handling.
JD. 1 abs
ND. 2. (1)
Richardson’s Talyot Norman.
GD. No entries
PGD. No entries
LD. 3. (1)
Burrage’s Sametova Bacary. Lively young male with a good shape & outline. I liked his length of head & well filled foreface. Good in neck with clean shoulders, good depth of body & nice spring of ribs. Muscular hindquarters, correct tailset. In good coat, moves with plenty of fluent driving action. Considered him for the RCC, but felt he needed to mature a little more.
England’s Ashleyheath’s Koruna Kash. I liked this boy but unfortunately his ’skittish’ behaviour was his downfall. He is a nice size with a good balanced outline. Good head & expression, good length of neck, well covered body. Has well made hindquarters but difficult to assess his movement. In a nice coat & condition.
OD. 5. (1)
England & Burrage’s Ch Ashleyheath’s Black Thunder. Nice head shape, good length with a wedge shape. Dark eye & well filled muzzle. Good neck, shoulders ok. Good length of body & correct spring of rib. Well made hindquarters, nicely muscled. Good width behind & moves out briskly. At times stacks himself short. In good coat & well prepared. CC & BOS
Tobijanski’s Ch Janski Bugurovski. Another nice mature male & close up to 1. Masculine head, good eye colour & pleasing expression. Good reach of neck, good in shoulder. Well made body, nice tuck up & correct tailset. In good coat, moving a little closer behind than 1. RCC
Richardson’s Wherrypoint Dafydd Talyot
VD. 2.
Tobijansk’s Ch Janski Kalliope Jones. I liked this boy, nice head with cleaner cheeks than 2. Nicely shaped head. Well made body with a nice spring of rib. Good shape to his outline, no exaggeration seen. In a good coat. Moving well behind, active for his 10 years.
Taylor’s Janski Ossie Jones At Polede. A size bigger than 1. Head needs more refinement for me, but has a good length. Nice balanced outline, well covered body, correct tailset & carriage. Moved well behind & nicely prepared coat.
PB. 2.
Burrage’s Komidion Sonata for Sametova. Pleasing head for her age, lovely dark eye. Good in outline showing the correct shape. Nice length of back & spring of rib. Well made hindquarters. In a nice coat. Quite a handful for her handler, just enjoying her day. Sister to PD winner.
Goundry’s Komidion Symphoniques at Sarminija. Litter sister to 1. Nice size, outline a little exaggerated for me. Similar in head type, both need time. Good reach of neck, well covered body with a nice spring of rib. Nice sloping croup & tailset. Rather sluggish on the move today.
JB. 3. Ellison’s Placido Oriana. Nice youngster, good outline. Well made throughout & in nice condition. Nice in head, good ear placement, has a keen expression. Good neck & shoulders, correct shaped topline & correct tailset. Nicely covered body & an easy mover.
Hacheme’s Placido Octavia. She too has a nice balanced outline, pleasing head, well placed ears which she uses well. Good neck, clean shoulders, well shaped body. Nice turn of stifle, moving nicely & a happy showgirl.
Dukes’s Runiks Akreepa of Dragons
NB. No entries
GB. No entries
PGB. 2.
Pratt’s Proxima Centauri. Nicely balanced outline, pleasing arch over the loin & slope of croup. Nicely balanced head, has length & strength but remains feminine. Well made body, good turn of stifle, correct tailset. A good mover both ways, alert attitude & in good coat. RCC
England & Burrage’s Ashletova Gone With The Wind. Nicely made girl with a good shape. Good length of head but would like a little more refinement in skull. Good neck, front could be straighter. Carrying plenty of body. A good mover behind. Showed well.
LB. 5. (1)
Fewings Komidion Rhapsody in Ryme. Good for size & balanced shape. Good length of head, nice strength in her foreface. Good in neck & shoulders, nice spring of ribs. Well made hindquarters with strength that showed when she moved out, correct tailset & carriage. In good coat. Better in front action than 2.
Dukes’s Placido Musical Miracle at Runiks. Just a shade longer cast than 1. She has a nice head, good in length & width. Good length of neck, nice depth of body with a correct spring of rib. Good turn of stifle, has strength behind that showed in her driving movement.
Tobijanski’s Janski Little Witch
OB. 5. (1)
Tobijanski’s Ch Janski Sodovuvitch. I liked the shape of her head, clean cheeks & good length. Well placed ears, good in neck & correct topline with a nicely sloping croup. Correct body shape, nice tuck up. She has well made hindquarters which she can use to drive off, correct tailset. Very feminine, in a good coat, presented nicely. Showed steadily during this class, then pulled out the stops to win the CC & BIS.
Burrage’s Komidion Prima Donna at Sametova. Another one with a pleasing head, alert expression & well placed ears. Good reach of neck, correct topline & good tailset. Moved quite quickly but able to see she is sound behind. In good coat & condition.
Fewings Komidion Passionato
VB. 1.
Burrage’s Ch Komidion Night Music At Sametova. In excellent condition for her age, can remember judging her many years ago. Nice length of head, well placed ears & good expression. Good neck, enough forechest, well made body with a correct tail set. Typical topline for the breed, nicely made behind & moves out well. In good coat & nice presentation. BV

THE CESKY TERRIER CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 17th JULY 2022 SPECIAL AWARD CLASSES
I would like to thank the Committee for putting on these Special Award Classes and inviting me to judge them. I would also like to thank the exhibitors for staying on to participate in them on such a hot day and, also my Steward, who kept things moving.
Special Junior, (6, 1a)
1, Ellison’s Placido Oriana, 12 month Bitch, lovely head with good bite, dark eye, well placed ears, good front, good reach of neck, well ribbed, good topline which she held on the move, moved well out and back, good tail carriage.
2, Goundry’s Komidion Symphoniques at Sarminija, 7 month Bitch, another pleasing youngster, good head and bite, neat ears, enough neck, well ribbed, good topline, moved well.
3, Richardson’s Talyot Norman, 6 month Dog, acquitted himself well for what I believe was his first show. Good head and bite, dark eye, good neck and shoulders, good spring of rib, moved well once settled.
Special Post Graduate, (3, 1a)
1, Pratt’s Proxima Centauri, 2 year old Bitch, well balanced outline, lovely head with good bite, correct ears, dark eye, good reach of neck, good front, well ribbed with good loin, moved well holding topline, good tail carriage.
2, Burrage’s Komidion Sonata for Sametova, 7 month Bitch, unlucky to meet 1 but her time will come, good head and ears, enough neck, good spring of rib, good topline, moved well. I see she went ResBPiS.
Special Open, (4, 1a)
1, England & Burrage’s Ch Ashleyheath’s Black Thunder ShCM ShCEx, 9 year old Dog. I judged this dog 3 years ago when he went TG1. He shows no sign of slowing down, excellent head with good bite, dark eye and correct ears, good reach of neck, good front and shoulders, well ribbed with well muscled loin, good hindquarters, moved with drive both going and in profile holding topline well, good tail carriage. Looked as though he owned the ring. I see he went a well deserved RBiS.
2, Burrage’s Ch Komidion Night Music at Sametova ShCM ShCEx VW, 12 year old Bitch, another that I have judged before and a testament to the longevity of Ceskys. Pleasing head and ears, good neck and shoulders, well ribbed with good loin, well carried tail, moved well but not quite the movement of 1. I see she went BViS.
3, Dukes & Rogers’ Placido Musical Miracle at Runiks, 3 year old Bitch, pleasing head, good bite, enough neck, good shoulders, moved well, good tail carriage.

Judge Colin Richardson
It is always a singular honour to be invited to judge at a breed club show. I would like to thank the committee, members and exhibitors for allowing me to examine their dogs. As always it was a delight to judge this lovely breed and I would like to thank the exhibitors for allowing me to evaluate their Ceskies.
Temperament was, in general, good. This year the dogs have had to contend with Covid lockdowns and the inevitable cancellation of shows, with the resulting reduction in socialisation and show training. I am rather tall, and as a result some were a little apprehensive. Presentation was in general good, all dogs presented in a clean, hard physical and well trimmed condition. I believe that generally the breed is in good shape however there are somethings that we need to be cognisant of.
I would ask that exhibitors are mindful of size, both in height and body proportions. I always remember at the first Cesky seminar my wife Lynne and I attended some 15-20 years ago, the speaker, Harold Gay, imparted a simple and memorable tenet, namely that if you look down at your Cesky and see something resembling a grey Sealyham, it is wrong.
On examining the exhibits I found 3 dogs with short upper arms, as the forehand/shoulder is a complicated assemblage, it could take a couple of generations to rectify. 2 dogs had flat toplines, both on the move and standing, the standard is quite specific as to the shape of the topline. Where have these €˜hound’ ears come from? They really do alter the expression. Couple of heads had too much fall away of muzzle so please watch that.

Dogs
Post Graduate Dog (1. 0 abs)
1st Goundry’s Komidion Rimsky Korsakov at Sarminia
22 month old mid grey dog. Bit too much all over. Head with broad backskull and large ears. Reasonable shoulder placement. Did enough to warrant 1st place
Limit Dog (1, 0 abs)
1st Burrage’s Sametova Bacary.
2 years old light silver dog. Still developing and needs a little more time for head to develop, earset is a little high at the present but should settle once head has broken. Moved around the ring quite well although on table was standing wide in front. Pleasing outline and held his topline on the move. Good tailset and rear angulation
Open Dog (3, 0 abs.)
Class with 3 different types, each fitting the standard in their own way. A lovely if somewhat challenging class to judge. All had masculinity without any coarseness & fitted the standard.
1st & RDCC Withers’ Nesta du Champ d’Eole. A lovely male who fits the standard well. He is not the easiest dog to handle, but his quality warranted him winning the RDCC. He was playing up his handler on the move, but he eventually settled. Slightly heavier build but not oversized. Quality dog.Dark grey coat of good texture. Powerful head with good muzzle length. Ear set OK. Nice length of neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Good length of rib cage and loin. Good topline and tailset. Well angulated rear. Was unsettled on the move at first but eventually did enough to win the class. A very close decision between 2 animals of differing type.
2nd Tobijanski’s Ch Janski Bugurovski
Another quality male from this top kennel who was slightly taller than the first. Proportionate head with parallel plans and good skull shape. Strong foreface and good underjaw. Earset OK. Correct length of neck which was set on a good front assembly. He held his topline standing and on the move. Moved smoothly and with drive.
3rd Taylor’s Oural du Champ d’Eole
This lad is nearly 4 years old. He is a credit to his owner and was presented in immaculate condition as one expects from this exhibitor. Dark grey in good coat. Would prefer a slightly longer head, however all was in proportion. Good ear set and expression. Strong jaw with good bite. Elegant neck set on very good forehand, good length of rib. Good rear angulation and well muscled. Needs to settle and be more confident.
Veteran Dog (2, 0abs)
BIS, Best Dog & DCC. Burrage’s and England’s Ashleyheath Black Thunder ShCM ShCEx
This dog of 8 years belies his age and is of the highest quality. He moved around the ring as if he owned it. Classic head of excellent proportion. Correct ear size & set. Powerful jaw with correct bite. Lovely expression from dark eye. Flowing neck with excellent forehand. Good length of rib and correct shaped rib cage. Good topline and tailset. Lovely rear angulation, moved with drive and purpose. Immaculately presented as one would expect from the owner/handler.
2nd RBVD Tobijanski’s Ch Janski Kalliope Jones (Re Imp)
9 years old mid grey boy, very well presented and unlucky to meet 1st. Typical of this top kennel, he was a little bit taller and heavier than first but still a quality animal. Good earset, strong teeth and punishing underjaw. Correct shoulder placement and correct topline. Moved well
Bitches
Junior Bitch (2, 1 abs)
1st Tobijanski’s Janski Little Witch
A lovely sized young lady of 17 months. A very pretty feminine bitch without weakness. Very nice type with well proportioned head with good earset. Strong teeth and good underjaw. Nice length of neck which flowed into good shoulder placement and forehand. Could be steadier on the table. Very promising youngster.
Novice Bitch (1, 0 abs
1st Samson’s Silak Terraria
What a little cracker although very mischieveous and full of character. She is coming to an age where she should know what is required of her, her exuberance was delightful as it showed a young bitch really enjoying her day out. She didn’t make it easy for her handler. Lovely feminine head with good ear set. Scissor bite and strong underjaw. Correct length of neck flowing into a very good forehand. Rear angulation was very good with bend of stifle and correctly set hocks. Lovely body outline with correct topline. Once she settled, moved well. It will be interesting to see how she progresses, if she can control her exuberance a little, she must be considered for top honours soon.
Limit Bitch (3, 0abs)
1st Samson’s Shasgav Sound of Silence ShCM ShCEx
I have given this bitch a terrier group at a large open show in strong competition before. 1st and 2nd were litter sisters and very typey. Both well presented. Today she did enough to win the class from her sister. Lovely head of excellent proportions, with correct bite and powerful jaws. Good lay back of shoulder, good length of rib cage and depth of chest with well angulated rear. Correct tail set. Moved well with good front and rear extension. Went around the ring with drive.
2nd Burrage’s Shasgav Nothing Else Matters by Ashleyheath.
Lovely bitch who is similar to winner and similar remarks apply. Was splitting hairs over the placements. Thought winner was more positive on the move. A lovely bitch
3rd Fewings’ Karensbrae Warm Hugs for Komidion
7 years old bitch who was heavier in type to previous exhibit. Strong head, dark eye, front not her fortune. Well presented
Open Bitch (3, 0 abs)
1st BCC & RBIS Shasgav My Immortal. I last judged this bitch some 2 years ago and since then she has developed into a lovely proportioned bitch who now eclipses her litter sisters from the previous class. Absolute pleasure to examine, stands over her legs. Beautiful feminine head with parallel planes and lovely skull shape. Strong foreface and good underjaw. Ear set OK. Correct length of neck which was set on a good front assembly. Correct length of rib cage and loin. Length to height ratio good and she held her topline standing and on the move. Moved smoothly and with drive. Well deserving of her first CC.
2nd & RBCC Tobijansk’s Janski Sodovuvitch
This bitch was well presented and out of the top drawer as one would expect from this kennel. She played up in the class and didn’t make it easy for her skilled handler. She was presented in immaculate condition and is of excellent type and size. Lovely head of excellent proportions, with correct bite and powerful jaws. Good lay back of shoulder, good length of rib cage and depth of chest with well angulated rear. Correct tail set. She has good front and rear extension but was unsettled on the move. In the challenge for the RCC she had a different handler and behaved herself.
3rd. Burrage’s Komidion Prima Donna of Samatova.
This bitch was unfortunate to meet the 1st and 2nd in this class. Pleasing head shape with good ear set. Strong teeth and powerful underjaw. Good forehand with correctly shaped brisket. Stands a little high in rear. Moved OK.
Veteran Bitch (1, 0 ab)
1st Burrage’s Komidion Night Music at Sametova ShCM, ShCEx VW
I have judged this 11 years old dark silver bitch before and she has always given 100% to her handler and she did so again today. She is a little tall for me, even so she has an elegant outline. She was put down to the minute, as one would expect from these owners. Excellent condition for her age. Pleasing shape to head with good dentition. Length of neck OK which flowed into well laid shoulders. Body outline correct, moved with drive.

JD. 1 abs

Richardson’s Talyot Norman.

LD. 3.

Cesky Terrier Club
Championship Show
4th September2021
